I love clothes and know this passion has increased dramatically since 2020. The only problem is figuring out where to put all these newly bought pieces. The Home Edit girls suggest creating seasonal closet bins. One for winter and one for summer. When you are not using one, just place it on a higher shelf and rotate them as the weather changes. This could prove a bit difficult in some New Zealand towns, renowned for four seasons in one day but give it your best shot.

Another clothes related tip they suggest for wardrobe organisation is lining up your pants, dresses, and shirts in colour order. This will give your wardrobe a polished look and make things easier to find. They suggest organising by category of item and then sorting by colour in rainbow order, ROYGBIV. Doing so also makes it easier to match colour combinations when it comes to getting dressed, saving you time and hassle in the morning. Plus, the aesthetic is absolutely divine.

When it comes to creating a decluttered look and keeping things organised it’s important to fold your work-out clothes, shorts, pyjamas, t-shirts, and even underwear. “If your closet doesn’t have drawers, create your own by using baskets”. This can look even better than a set of drawers. 
If you are short on hanging space, then fold your denim and store them on a shelf with dividers. This way they are kept contained while still easy to access.

While the girls prefer to use slim velvet hangers, the most important thing is to have a matching set. They say this is the biggest game-changer of any wardrobe organisation and we have to agree. Matching products, including the storage containers you use, really does make a difference. It keeps things looking orderly and streamlined. Who doesn’t love that? 

How do you Throw Away the Clothes you are Hoarding?

This one is simple. Be realistic – if you haven’t worn it in over a year, then you probably never will. Maybe you love that item of clothing or it’s attached to a certain memory, but you don’t need to feel guilty about throwing it out. Just be consistent, no hoarding, declutter, and stick to the one-year rule. This will change your wardrobe organisation for the better. Also, remember to sell your clothes or better yet donate to a friend or hospice.
